The Yelm Club was successful last summer, providing food to rural Yelm areas where children need help. The club provided approximately 2,200 bags of food as a stop-gap measure that other food programs could not reach. Their program has changed the awareness of the complexity of supplying food to children and their families. Other local clubs contributed time and money to their effort. Grants came from the local business community, other Rotary clubs, and community members. Fundraisers were held that brought in donations and awareness of Rotary.
The club provided over 2,200 bags of food, distributed at four sites in the area. They held a 5K run to help fundraise, worked a booth at the local Farmers Market, and organized a food drive for peanut butter and jelly.
Including their $3,500 District Grant, Yelm raised $25,000.
Key club Rotarians for the District Community Grant were Tom Dewell, Tess Fawn, Pamela Ferris, and Ken McCulloch.
