The Province of British Columbia and the State of Washington have each officially proclaimed that October 24, 2022 shall be World Polio Day for Polio Awareness. This is in recognition of Rotary International’s promise to the children of the world to eradicate a vicious disease called Poliomyelitis or Polio.
Rotary made the promise in 1985. Thirty-seven years later Polio cases have dropped by over 99% thanks to the dedication of Rotarians worldwide who have worked together to achieve this goal. As our District Governor says “Wild polio has been reduced to one village in Pakistan”.
The Global Polio Eradication Initiative, inspired by Rotary, has shown that vaccinations are essential for protection against Polio and many other diseases as well. Eradication is achievable.
These proclamations are a great honor for Rotarians everywhere as they continue their vital work of providing Polio vaccine to everyone. Rotarians continue to keep their promise to eradicate Polio and to make children safe worldwide.
THANK YOU WASHINGTON STATE AND BRITISH COLUMBIA!
WELL DONE ROTARIANS!
