Three Tacoma Sunrise Rotarians recently traveled more than 9,000 miles to help with Rachel-Plus training workshops in Windhoek, Namibia May 5-6. The Rotarians were Dennis Buschman (and his wife Delia), Dan Powell and Tom Glenn. The trip and training had previously been cancelled travel and training plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
They were joined in Windhoek by Wolfgang Schenck, a fellow Rotarian from Rotary Club Windhoek, as well as trainers from Sierra Leone, Ghana, Kenya and Tanzania.
The training workshops were for RACHEL-Plus (Remote Area Community Hotspot for Education and Learning). The three Rotarians also brought video equipment to record the workshops. The videos will be used (via YouTube, etc.) to train additional teachers on RACHEL-Plus in the future.
The workshops were conducted at the request of, and with support from, the Khomas District Education Department for teachers and principals from eight farm schools in the region.
The Namibia trip was in support of a Rotary International Global Grant–Khomas District Namibia RACHEL-Plus “Virtual” Workshop Project (GG1990746). Rotary Club of Tacoma #8 and the Rotary Club of Lakewood were also participants in the grant funding.
The Teach Your Children video (https://youtu.be/5U_c5MDyKWc) shows photos of the group’s recent trip to Namibia, as well as other global educational work the three Tacoma Sunrise Rotarians have worked on in recent years.
