The Rotary Club of Longview recently presented a $5,000 check to United Way of Cowlitz County to continue supporting the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Project. This program mails a book a month to enrolled children’s homes who are ages birth to 5.
Including this recent donation, the Rotary Club of Longview has contributed $40,541 towards this program since it’s inception in 2018. These donations are the equivalent of over 16,000 books for local Cowlitz County children!
According to Sarah Koss, chair of the Literacy Committee, “Our Rotary Club is thrilled to continue supporting this effective and successful literacy effort.”
The current number of birth to age 5 children enrolled in the program is 3,187, which is 53% of eligible children. Another 3,191 children have graduated from the program when they reached age 5. This is a total of at least 6,387 children and families who have received 155,120 books over the past five years from this beneficial program!
