HomeCLUB NEWSTHE PEANUT BUTTER CHALLENGE IS ON!

THE PEANUT BUTTER CHALLENGE IS ON!

On August 14-15, and August 21-22, 2021, the UP-Fircrest Club began its collection of peanut butter at the Green Firs Safeway store in University Place, WA.  On the first day, the club collected 300.75 pounds and at least 224 pounds in other nonperishable items to add to the ultimate donation to the Families Unlimited Network food bank in UP.  Many thanks to the supportive manager and staff at the store.  The store actually ran out of peanut butter, and has tripled its order for the second weekend of the food drive.

Last year’s winner was the Rotary Club of University Place-Fircrest, at 78 pounds of peanut butter per member, or 1330 pounds total!  The runner up was the Kenai Rotary Club with about 64 pounds per person.

In 2020,  the participating clubs were Kenai, Soldotna, Anchorage South, Anchorage East, E-Club (Alaska), Sitka, Barrow Nuvuk (all of these are Alaska clubs) and University Place-Fircrest.  The perpetrator of this challenge is former UP-Fircrest president Scott Seitz, now an Alaska resident.  The contest is open to any club in the world from August 1 to 31st. Too late this year?  The clubs will probably do this again, to benefit local food banks.   Scott Seitz can be contacted at ScottSeitz672@gmail.com
