The Rotary Club of Kelso in partnership with Cowlitz PUD announces the success of its brand new event— The First Annual “Kelso Rotary Lights in the Park” spectacular drive through lighted Christmas display. It was held on December 16-23, 2021 at Tam O’Shanter Park in Kelso, Washington.
“Kelso Rotary Lights in the Park” by the numbers:
Over 4,400 cars drove through the display in its first year, which allowed Kelso Rotary to donate $8,900 to the Cowlitz PUD Warm Neighbor Fund (a program to help families needing short-term financial assistance with their electric bills). Volunteers included 29 Kelso Rotarians, plus volunteers from Longview Rotary Club, Longview Early Edition Rotary Club, Longview Lions Club, Cowlitz PUD, Lower Columbia Professionals, Lower Columbia College, Kelso High School, RA Long High School, and Mark Morris High School. There were over 35 sponsors that helped make this inaugural event possible.
What is the “Kelso Rotary Lights in the Park”?
Around 60,000 beautiful LED lights were displayed on a half mile route through Tam O’Shanter Park for the public to drive through and view from the comfort of their vehicle. With over 25 light displays to enjoy and over 30 lighted trees, it was a wonderful event for the whole family. There were lighted Santa, penguins, elves, reindeer, gingerbread boy/girl, snowmen, a nativity scene, angels and much more. There was a Christmas radio station dedicated to the event so visitors could sing along in their car to their favorite holiday songs. The lights were purchased from a company in Marion Indiana that has been in business for over 70 years. There was a suggested donation of $5 per car with proceeds benefiting the Cowlitz PUD Warm Neighbor Fund and the purchase of more lights for next year.
Plans for the 2022 Second Annual “Kelso Rotary Lights in the Park”?
Kelso Rotary Club is pleased to announce that due to last year’s great attendance, volunteer participation, and support from the community, Kelso Rotary Lights in the Park will continue again in December 2022. Kelso Rotary looks forward to increasing the scope of this exciting event in its second year.
