TACOMA SOUTH ROTARY’S 26TH ANNUAL MINI-GOLF TOURNAMENT

Tacoma South Rotary’s 26th Annual Mini-Golf Tournament, Friday, October 21st, 2022. Doors open at 5 PM.

For the past twenty-six years, Tacoma South Rotary club has invited fellow Rotarians, their friends, families, and the community to spend an evening playing eighteen holes of miniature golf laid out over two floors of Harkness Furniture Store on South Tacoma Way. Tacoma South Rotary has raised over a million dollars in the past quarter of a century.

Last October, Tacoma South raised over $72,000 for local charities by playing miniature golf in a furniture store. A furniture store? Yes, a furniture store.

Why hold a fundraiser in a furniture store? Tacoma South Rotary Charter member, Dave Harkness, owner of Harkness Furniture, says, “Rotary gives Harkness Furniture the opportunity to give back locally, area-wide, and globally. We know all dollars pass through to the ultimate charities and scholarship recipients without administrative costs. Rotary is the conduit to make sure our dollars are maximized in giving back to the community and the world.”

Circle Friday, October 21st at 5 PM on your calendar. Dig out your putter and practice your 1920’s slang. Because the 26th Annual Mini-Golf Tournament is going to be the cat’s pajamas, put on your glad rags, and bring some cabbage, as it’ll cost more than a fin. There’ll be giggle water, and the Equinox band’s music is the bee’s knees. You can get all dolled up or not. Whether you hit an ace, birdie, or buy a mulligan … everything’s copacetic.

The joint? Harkness Furniture, 6612 South Tacoma Way, Tacoma, WA 98409

Doors open at 5 PM for cocktails, raffles, a no-host bar, music, and Silent Auction. Dinner’s at 6, followed by the ‘Raise the Paddle.’ Tee Time’s at 7 PM.

In twenty minutes at last year’s event, Tacoma South raised over $30,000 during the ‘Raise the Paddle’ portion of the evening to outfit two classrooms in the Multicultural Child and Family Hope Center’s soon-to-be-built Cora Whitley Community Center.

Compassion Washington is Tacoma South’s 2022 ‘Raise the Paddle’ recipient. Compassion Washington provides free medical and dental clinics in Pierce County via a mobile unit that travels to where the need is greatest. $35,000 will fund a Radiology package comprised of two hand-held x-ray machines, two sensors, two laptops, a lead apron, and two software licenses.

Want to play? Talk to your friends, colleagues, neighbors, and family and put together a foursome. Cost? $75 per person, includes dinner. Don’t want to play putt-putt? You’ll have a swell time enjoying the music, dinner, and fun for just $30 apiece. Each golf hole is decorated and manned by the nonprofits funded over the years.
