The Rotary Club of Nanaimo Oceanside recently held its 2nd Annual Running of the Balls fundraiser. Tickets purchased corresponded with a ball that was released down a steep obstacle course, complete with Mt. Benson’s rocky terrain, the Metral Drive construction zone, critters from Buttertubs Marsh colliding with BC Ferries, and finally running the Shady Mile haunted forest before reaching the finish line. Three winners emerged, receiving cash prizes and gift certificates.
The real winners are the children and families whose lives are improved thanks to access to the programs that we are able to support through our event. This year partial proceeds went to Navy League Cadets Nanaimo Branch and Food 4 Schools, a meal program initiated by the Nanaimo Ladysmith Schools Foundation.
COVID protocols still limited public access to the event, so it was live-streamed on the club Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/OceansideRotary/videos. Next year, we hope to hold an open to the public event to a sell-out crowd.
Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and to our sponsors. See you again next year.
