ROTARIANS BRAVING THE WET AND COLD RAISE $10,000

For decades Sooke Rotary has rung the bells on behalf of the Salvation Army, and every year the Sooke community has answered the call and filled the kettles.  Rotarians braved the wet and the cold outside our local BC Liquor Store, and the generosity of the public this year  was incredible, with a record of over $10,000 collected during the two weeks prior to Christmas.

Each year Santa Claus, much to the delight of the little children, takes some time out of his busy schedule to come down from the North Pole and give us a hand.

Every year the Club sponsors and decorates a Christmas Tree at the local arena, with all funds raised going to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.  Several years ago, we decided rather than using typical Christmas decorations, we would adorn our tree with socks, gloves, and toques that would then be donated to our local food bank.  A chest was placed under the tree, asking the public to pitch in.  This year well over 300 new items of warm winter clothing were donated and subsequently dropped off at the food bank for distribution in their weekly hampers.
