The Shelton Skookum Club supports many nonprofits in the Shelton/Greater Mason County area.
Last month Shelton Skookum Rotary partnered with South Sound Reading Foundation to distribute a free reading book to all Evergreen Elementary School Students on March 2nd. That day was Dr Seuss’ birthday and has been proclaimed as Read Across America Day. Each student was able to choose a book to take home. The books included picture books and reader books published in English or Spanish.
Funds enabling the book purchase for the students came from a Shelton Skookum Rotary Community Grant to South Sound Reading Foundation. Most of our funding to support these grants are generated from our annual West Coast Oyster Shucking Championship and Washington State Seafood Festival, aka OysterFest that is held the first weekend of every October.
Shelton Skookum Rotary Members: Candace Cahill; Blase Gorny; Joyce Gorny; and Phil Grigg participated in the distribution of the books to the children.
This has been and will continue to be an annual event for our club to support the Basic Education and Literacy area of focus.
