The Poulsbo-North Kitsap Rotary club, with funding assistance from the District (DCG 44), recently completed a project to build a simple kitchen facility for a school in Vatao, Burkina Faso, Africa.
Our cooperating organization was Walk In The Light International (WITLI), a 501c3 organization whose headquarters are in Silverdale, Washington, and who do humanitarian work in Burkina Faso, Africa. WITLI local representatives conducted on-site coordination and supervision of the construction and were very good at maintaining financial records of the project.
The project was to build a very simple cinder block “shelter” to house a “kitchen” for a school, so food for children is not stored and prepared in the elements. The kitchen was built to provide nutritious meals to 280 children/day. The lunch they receive may be the only meal they receive during the day.
