On Saturday, March 25th, the demolition phase on a newly purchased Homestead Community house began! Gig Harbor Midday Rotarians and their family members, along with Rotarians from other GH Clubs and community volunteers, worked hard on phase one of the demolition.
Among the Midday Rotarians who helped were President-Elect, Dr. Nathan Schlicher, Dr. Jessica Schlicher, and their sons David and Henry. Along with Dwayne Dabbs and his son, Drew, longtime Rotarian Don Hutchins, and our favorite Rotarian Spouse, Dick Siler. They worked hard to complete all the demolition work required to prepare for a complete renovation project. The work was a display of the Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self, and the dedication of all the volunteers was inspiring.
Thirteen-year-old Drew was so impressed with the work and the opportunity to help other kids that he asked when the next work party would be, and he and his friend Guy came back a few days later to demo the deck – Kudos to all of our Future Rotarians!
Homestead Community expressed its sincere gratitude to all those who contributed their time and energy to this project. The renovation of this house will create a welcoming and safe environment for foster children and their caregivers, and it is a testament to the generosity and compassion of the community.
