Each year District 5020 awards District 5020 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships (DRAS) and supports applications for Global Grant Scholarships and Peace Fellowships, all for post-graduate studies.
Candidates for the scholarships must be endorsed by both a club and the District. Hence, we need clubs to spread the word and identify any potential candidates for these scholarships.
Each DRAS provides $15,000 to support one year of postgrad studies at an accredited university in a country other than the USA or Canada. The deadline for receiving applications for the DRAS for studies in 2022-23 is January 15, 2022.
The DRAS scholar’s area of study must support Rotary’s goal of encouraging and fostering the ideal of service above self.
If a successful DRAS candidate is accepted into a post-graduate degree program, and the studies are expected to lead to sustainable, high-impact outcomes in one of Rotary International’s areas of focus, the Scholar may also apply to upgrade the DRAS to a Global Grant Scholarship (GGS) of US$30,000, funded by The Rotary Foundation’s World Fund.
Help us find candidates. If you know anyone who might be interested, please pass on this information.
Please ask your club members, through announcements, newsletters, emails and social media, to identify possible applicants and bring their attention to the DRAS scholarship. Detailed information about the scholarships as well as the application forms are available at https://rotary5020.org/page/scholarships/
The deadline for complete applications for the DRAS is Jan. 15, 2022. The selection of the winning applicants will be done by the District 5020 Scholarship Committee in early February 2022. The committee may then endorse any successful candidate for a GGS and mentor the candidate through the GGS application process which has an application deadline of June 30, 2022.
Rotary Peace Fellowships, which are funded through The R0tary Foundation (TRF), are for study at any of the Rotary Centers for International Studies in Peace and Conflict Resolution located in leading universities around the world. This program provides financial support for a master’s degree in international relations, sustainable development, peace studies and conflict resolutions, or a professional development certificate in peace and conflict studies.
Applicants for Peace Fellowships must be endorsed by a Rotary club and the District and are encouraged to contact a local Rotary club or District 5020 several months before the application deadline. The application is made directly to TRF which must receive applications before July 1, one year ahead of the start of the planned studies.
Rotary International, The Rotary Foundation and District 5020 have a remarkable history of commitment to the scholarship programs, which have the ability to transform individual lives and entire communities.
