YEAR JOINED ROTARY: 2009
- Why did you join Rotary? What did you expect from your Rotary membership?
My wife, Candace, was a member and I helped volunteer on OysterFest and other community service projects. I got to know other club members and liked the club’s goals. I have been a member of many volunteer organizations and was impressed that Rotary also had an international focus.
- Has Rotary lived up to your expectations – how?
Yes it has and even more. The club does a great job of helping the community, other organizations and often helps & sponsors international global grants. On the “more” side, it has been a wonderful experience attending District events, listening to great presentations and enjoying Rotary friendships in Washington, British Columbia and internationally.
- We know Rotary is a big part of your life, but what do you like to do for fun? Hobbies?
Traveling, skiing, motorcycle riding, boating, sports, hiking and camping. Many of these activities with family and friends.
- What inspired you to become involved at the club level? Then at the district level?
At the club level, there was a need to establish and consolidate a club website when I joined. I quickly became the club webmaster. I also attended Board meetings and was asked to serve as Secretary which I did for 9 years. I also served in the Presidential chain. At the District level I was asked to fill our Area’s vacant AG position by then DG Craig, following that I received encouraging follow-up calls from DGE Mo and DGN Greg. I talked it over with Candace, who was a past Assistant Governor and she said It’s up to you, but it’s hard to say “no” when you have been asked by the District Governor chain. Candace has helped me with some helpful advice on a number of issues within the area.
- Best experience so far as Assistant Governor?
- When will we see you as the District Governor?
