The Rotary Club of Duncan celebrated World Polio Day on October 24th by holding a special dinner and silent auction for our monthly social evening.
We had 22 members and spouses attend a fun evening at the Old Firehouse Wine and Cocktail Bar. Foundation Chair Susanne Atagi prepared a sumptuous meal featuring butter chicken and Syrian rice. During the evening people had an opportunity to bid on various Goods and Services that were donated by members. Items included wine, baked goods, a beautiful handmade charcuterie board and artwork, just to name a few.
A new member Induction was also part of the evening with members welcoming Julie Dufour to the club. A fitting addition to the agenda was the presentation of a Paul Harris +2 to John Howatt.
A special guest for the evening was Cim MacDonald, a respected local artist who has supported our club over the years with donations of artwork for our annual Gala Auction fundraiser. Cim donated a print for the evening’s silent auction and told us of her efforts to raise money for hurricane relief for the people in Canada’s maritime provinces, who were so drastically impacted by Hurricane Fiona this fall. Our club will be assisting Cim in this project.
As for World Polio Day, net proceeds from the meal will be donated to Polio plus as well as half the proceeds from the silent auction. The other half raised by the silent auction will go towards local club projects. In total, we raised over $1100.00 for Polio Plus during a very fun event!
