For the second year in a row, Cumberland Rotarians collected food donations to help their fellow citizens facing food insecurity by holding a food drive to fill the shelves of Cumberland Food Share. The Club sends out flyers the week before, letting everyone know when to have their donations out for pick up. Rotarians are given specific routes for pickup at an agreed-upon assembly area, and within less than one and a half hours, the Village has been scoured for donations and delivered to the food share pantry. This year Rotarians checked all the donations for best before and expired dates before handing them over to make it easier for the Food Share volunteers to stock their shelves. They also took anything out of date away for disposal. Due to restrictions of Covid, the Club’s major fundraiser event has been stalled for the second year in a row, so the Club initiated the Food Drive to help out in ways that don’t require a large cash input but make a huge impact in the Village.
