Creating hope and peace in our world and in our community is part of Rotary International’s goals, and Sequim Sunrise Rotary is working hard in our community to share these with others.
One example of sharing this hope is with the family living at 312 W. Alder. A hearing-impaired single mom with an autistic son was overwhelmed with the needs of their 1940s house. The roof tiles blew off during storms, the yard needed major landscaping, and an old fallen fence needed to be removed. Her deck was rotted, and pealing exterior paint were just a few of the problems that robbed her of peace.
Faithful Rotarians volunteered for weeks to extend hope and help make a run-down house into a beautiful home. Painting, landscaping, and fence removal have been accomplished so far, with plans to install a new dishwasher soon. Thanks to Habitat for Humanity, the roof was replaced. They also aided Rotarians with installing new deck material and exterior painting.
Matching funds were provided for this project by a Rotary International District 5020 Grant written by club member and Immediate Past President Ann Flack. Ann has been a Rotarian for 12 years and has held the offices of Grant Writer, Treasurer, International Committee Director, President, and Secretary. According to Ann, the project was designed to empower 3-5 seniors to live independently in their home through repairs and safety modifications.
RI President-elect Gordon R. McInally calls for Rotarians to create hope in the world by working for peace and mental well-being. He urges members to engage in conversations with fellow club members, neighbors, and friends to earn the trust that’s necessary to realize these values. Sequim residents can be proud of how our members engage and help neighbors in this beautiful town.
