12TH Annual Rotary Star Awards Honors Three Gig Harbor Citizens

The Star Awards Event is May 20, 2022, 5:30 PM, at Canterwood Golf Club, 12606 54th Ave NW, Gig Harbor, WA. The event is open to the public.  Tickets are $45.

 The 12th annual Rotary Star Awards have announced their 2021 honorees.  Kaitlin Pifer, Melissa Oman, and Dr. Sara Thompson are being honored by the three Rotary Clubs in Gig Harbor for their contributions to the Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula communities

The annual Rotary Star Awards honors non-Rotarians who exemplify Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self.  The event raises funds for charities designated by the honorees.

Rotary Club of Gig Harbor recognizes Kaitlin Pifer. Kaitlin is an ongoing child advocate both in work and personal life volunteering as a CASA, providing Foster Shelter, therapy, and support to 235 kids and counting!  Kaitlin’s charity is The Wishing Well.

Rotary Club of Gig Harbor Midday is recognizing Melissa Oman for her extraordinary volunteer work, her continuous involvement with PTA’s, helping with school board measures and raising funds for those in need.  Her biggest volunteer contribution has been for the Gig Harbor Relay for Life, she has helped raise over $100,000 over the past 5 years. Melissa’s charity is the Gig Harbor Relay for life.

Rotary Club of Gig Harbor North is honoring Dr. Sara Thompson for her volunteer community activities focused on the Mustard Seed Project as a Board Member, Key Peninsula News as an award-winning writer, Health and Wellness Committee as chair of the task force on health care access, and the Pierce County Aging and Disability Resource Center Advisory Board as a member of the Education Planning and Allocations Committee.

Sara’s charities are the Mustard Seed Project and the Key Peninsula News.

These are the dedicated unsung heroes that work behind the scenes. They are members of our communities that have made positive and major impacts on the lives of others because of their selfless dedication to Service Above Self and a desire to create better opportunities for all to thrive.  It’s the Rotary Clubs pleasure to celebrate their efforts, passions, and contributions.
