BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB PAINTING PROJECT

Through the years, the Sequim Sunrise Rotary Club has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Sequim on numerous projects. In July, Janet Gray, Resource Development Director for the Boys and Girls Club, reached out to our Club for help.

The game room was in desperate need of renovation. The carpet was worn out, and the paint was in sad shape as well. Over the years, the paint scheme changed many times, and the Club was left with a variety of sad colors. Community Service co-chairs Becki Roberts, and Ron Long answered their call for help.

In mid-July, a team of Rotarians removed the old carpet, and new carpet was installed. Fortunately for both Clubs, Rotarian Tom Hartig’s son, who is a professional painter, agreed to spray paint the walls. With the hardest part of the job completed, project coordinators Chris Coolures and Eric Mahnerd put together a team to remove and replace all the wall coat racks, repair the damaged walls and paint the accent trim, doors, and window frames.

Working with them on the project was Rotary President Ann Flack and her husband Tom, Becki Roberts and her husband Gary, Jack Tatom, Tom Hartig and his son Mike, Rich Bemm, Ron Long, Kaye Gagnon, Kathy Mahnerd, and Alicia Lampert. All told, the Club purchased $1,600 in paint and supplies, the team put in 176 hours, and the project was finished on August 25!

Project coordinator Eric Mahnerd summed it up this way “working together as a team and putting Service Above Self, once again Rotarians have brought great benefit to the kids that utilize the Boys and Girls Club!”
