ASSISTANCE TO SAVE LIVES IN NEPAL THRU A DISTRICT COMMUNITY GRANT

COVID was hitting Indian communities hard last year. The Campbell River Rotary Club supplied medical equipment thru a 21-22 District Grant to the Western Regional Hospital in Pokhara, Nepal.

This hospital is the primary medical referral center for 2.5 million people. The Campbell River Rotary Club worked with the Rotary Club of Pokhara Fishtail. The Campbell River club had developed a relationship over five years with the Rotary Club of Fishtail Pokhara, who contacted them about the hospital’s emergency needs.

Their focus was to supply critical medical needs associated with COVID-19 illness to help protect health care workers in the hospital and purchase key equipment to save the lives of those with Covid. Their budget was $7,000, so they bought 2 Oxygen Concentrators, 100 PPE sets, 20 Oxygen cylinder trolleys, and face masks/hand sanitizers were purchased to help.

The Campbell River club grant writers and key contacts for the effort were Ian Baikie, Susie Moscovich, and Amy Stevenson.
